당신은 억만장자, 댈러스 매버릭스 구단주인 동시에 유명한 블로거입니다. 당신에게 블로그는 무엇입니까? 제가 무슨 생각을 하는지 말하고 공유하는 기회의 창이라고 생각합니다. 제가 좋아하는 스포츠, 비즈니스, 그리고 여러가지 다른 것들까지도요.

 

당신은 한국에서 사업가라기보다 억만장자로 더 유명합니다. 한국에서는 재산가가 블로거인 경우가 드문데 블로그를 시작한 이유는 무엇입니까? 또 그것이 당신과 삶에 어떤 영향을 주었습니까? 제가 블로그를 시작하게 된 계기는 팬들과 차세대 비즈니스 피플과의 커뮤니케이션을 위해서입니다. 이런 형태의 커뮤니케이션 방식에 흥미가 있는 분들에게 하고 싶은 말은, 블로그를 통해 세계 곳곳에서 받았던 뜨거운 관심과 반응은, 그리고 블로그 독자들과 나눈 정보와 새로운 사람들과의 만남은 소중한 경험이었다는 것입니다.

 

블로그를 운영하는데 얼마나 많은 시간을 들이십니까? 정기적으로 블로그를 관리하는지 듣고 싶습니다. 블로그에 투자하는 시간은 일주일에 대략 3-4시간 정도라고 말할 수 있겠네요. 물론 정기적이지도 않고요. 저는 블로그에 올리고 싶은 흥미로운 일이 있을 때 포스팅을 합니다.

 

여러 분야에서 성공을 한 것 같습니다. 성공의 비결을 알고 싶고 더불어 인생의 목표와 비젼이 있다면 말씀해주십시오. 저는 열심히 그리고 스마트하게 일하려고 노력합니다. 제 성공의 비결을 말하자면, 내가 아주 잘아는 분야에서 사업을 추진하는 것이라고 할 수 있습니다. 과학기술(technology)과 미디어처럼요. 더 중요한 점은, 이 분야들이야 말로 제가 정말 즐기는 분야라는 것이겠죠. 내가 사랑하는 것에서는 일하는 것이 어렵지만은 않은 법이죠. 제 인생의 목표이기도 하지만, "내가 정말 좋아하는 분야를 찾고 한번 마음먹은 이상 최고가 되자"를 언제나 생각하고 있습니다.

 

당신에게 멘토가 있는지 궁금합니다. 멘토가 있다면 그에게 배운 것이 무엇이고, 삶에 전환점이 될 수 있었던 좌우명이 있다면 말씀해주십시오. 제 아버지는 저의 멘토입니다. 아버지는 언제나 말씀하시길 "지식만 가지고는 성공할 수 없다. 열심히 하고 그것을 진정으로 즐길 때만이 가능하다."

요즘 사람들은 돈을 벌어 너무 쉽게 돈을 씁니다. 돈을 가치있게 쓰는 방법이 어떤 것인지 말씀해주십시오. 성공은 항상 누군가와 함께 이뤄가는 것이고 많은 사람들로부터 도움을 받아야 합니다. 성공은 절대 혼자서는 이룰 수 없습니다. 제가 지금 이 자리에 있기까지 저를 지지해주고 도와주는 사람들이 있었고 그 분들에게 저는 여러 방법으로 고마움을 표시를 합니다.

 

당신은 부유한 가정에서 태어나지는 않았다고 들었습니다. 부자라서 할 수 있는 것과 할 수 없는 것이 있다면 말씀해주십시오. 돈은 삶을 편하게 만들어줍니다. 돈이 있다는 것은 집세나 세금을 더 이상 걱정하지 않아도 되지만, 그렇다고 더 좋은 아빠나 친구를 만드는 것은 절대 아닙니다.

 

당신이 부자가 아니었다면 어떤 일을 하고 있을 거라고 생각하십니까? 만약 그렇다 하더라도 저는 제가 좋아하는 technology 분야에서 일하며 지금과 똑같이 행복할 것입니다

 

당신은 영화제작자, 농구팀 구단주, IT기업 CEO 같은 여러 직함을 가지고 있습니다. 이런 것들이 당신의 부에 대한 관념이나 철학들이 반영되어있는지 궁금합니다. 이 모든 것들은 내 자신의 삶을 즐기고 있다는 것을 보여준다고 생각합니다.

 

억만장자이기 때문에 많은 사람들을 만났을 것이고, 어떤 사람들은 당신에게 도움이나 어떤 다른 것을 요구했을 수도 있다고 생각됩니다. 그중에서 가장 기억에 남거나 터무니없는 요구가 있었다면 말씀해주십시오. 너무 많은 요청이 하루에도 수없이 몰려들기에 어떤 한가지 만을 특정하게 짚기가 힘드네요.

 

어떤 사람이 당신에게 다가와서 축복의 말과 함께 1달러를 요구한다면 어떻게 하겠습니까? 비슷한 상황으로 축복의 말과 함께 백만달러를 요구한다면 어떻게 하겠는지 말씀해주십시오. 저는 우선 그 사람에게 그 돈으로 무엇을 할지 물어볼 것입니다. 누군가 나를 축복해준다는 것은 매우 고무적인 일이지만, 때로는 돈의 가치를 모르는 사람에게 돈을 쥐어주는 것은 불행의 시작일지도 모르는 일이기 때문입니다.

 

NBA팬으로서 묻고 싶습니다. 댈러스 매버릭의 선수 중 가장 좋아하는 선수가 있다면 말씀해주시고 스카우트 하고 싶은 선수가 있는지 궁금합니다. 저는 Mavericks의 모든 선수들을 좋아합니다.

 

추천하고 싶은 책이 있다면 말씀해주십시오. Ayn Rand의 The Fountainhead을 추천해 드리고 싶습니다.

Past couple of weeks, I posted about you on my blog (http://www.useblog.co.kr/75) and many bloggers took part in the interview.
I have selected few questions.

I would like to start the question with blog. Your greeting to your Korean fans? Thank you! I truly appreciate and respect the support of my fans in Korea.

 

While you're a billionaire and the owner of Dallas Maverick, you are also a famous blogger. What does blog mean to you? Its a chance to say whats on my mind. To discuss sports, business and other things that I am interested in.

 

In Korea, you are famous as a billionaire than a businessman. Person who is so rich like you being a blogger is very unlikely happened in Korea. What was your reason to start the blog? And what does the blog change you and your life? I started the blog because it was a way to communicate with fans and up and coming businesspeople. To give advice to those who are interested in what I have to say. Its been excited to see the response I have gotten from around the world! I have met many new people and shared great information with readers of the blog.

 

How much time do you spend in your blog? And Is it regular? I probably only spend 3 or 4 hours per week. I dont write on a regular schedule, I write when I think I have something interesting to say.
Many Koreans are curious about your fortune and the after life.? Following questions will be on that issue.

 

It seems that you have continuously achieved something successfully. What was your key to success? What is your life goal or vision? I try to work hard and to work smart.?I think my key to success has been to stick to business projects in areas I truly know well, like technology and media. More importantly, these are areas that I truly enjoy. Its not hard to do something you love to do. Which has been my goal. To find something that I love in the business world and be really good at it.

 

Do you have any mentor? If you have someone, what was the lesson? What would be "the word" that gave you a turning point of your life? My father has been my mentor. He has always told me that it takes more than knowledge to be successful. It takes hard work and the ability to truly enjoy all that you do.

 

Nowadays, people earn money and waste money like water. What is the best way to spend money worthily? You have to always recognize that to be successful you have worked with and been helped by many people around you. Success never comes from working alone. I believe in trying to be supportive and helpful of those that helped me get to where I am today and to thank them in many different ways.

 

I heard that you weren’t born with a silver spoon in your mouth. What can you do because you are rich and what can’t you do because of your richness? Money makes the basics of life easier. I no longer have to worry about paying for my home or to pay the utility bills. It can't however, make me a better father or friend.

 

If you are not rich, what do you think that you are right now with what kind of job? I would work in the technology business somewhere and be just as happy as I am now.

 

A film producer, an owner of basketball team and a CEO of IT company are just few of your titles. I was wondering if these I think it shows that I want to enjoy my life and to allow those around me to enjoy theirs.

 

Being a billionaire, you must have met a great number of people and they also had asked you for helps or any other things. Out of them, what was the most memorable and/or absurd request? There are so many that I get every day. Not one stands out.

 

If a stranger comes up to you and ask you for $1 with blessing words "Happiness for you and I", what would you do? And when someone asks you for one million dollar with the same blessing words, what would you do? I ask them what they are going to do with their money. While its generous for them to offer me their blessing, sometimes giving money to someone who doesn't know what to do with it can make things worse for that person. So I try to be considerate of what I do.

 

As a big fan of NBA, which player is your favorite in Dallas Maverick? And who would you like to scout as your team? I like all the Mavericks players.

 

Do you have a recommended book that want to share with other people? The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand Ayn "The Fountainhead".

 

What is your personal goal in 5 years or 10 years? To raise a happy and healthy family.
